Courtney Brennan Birckhead of Grasonville, Maryland and formerly of Bowie, Maryland, and Lakeland Florida, passed away on July 4, 2017.

He was born April 26, 1922 in Friendship Maryland to Courtney and Edna (Brennan) Birckhead. He attended school at Maryland Park. Later he enrolled in Electrical School in Takoma Park, Md. In 1942 he enlisted in the Navy and served in Norfolk, Virginia, Atlantic City, New Jersey, and Brunswick, Maine. After the war he work as a union electrician until 1965 and then went to work at GSA in Washington DC as an Electrical Foreman until he retired. He was a lifetime member and served as Commander of the American Legion Post 73 in Corinna, Maine in 1953.

He married Marie Turner in 1945. Together they had 6 children. They lived in several places in the early years, settling in Bangor, Maine and later in Bowie Maryland.

Courtney and Marie were founding members of St. Matthews United Methodist Church in Bowie, the Belair Square Cats square dancing club, and the owners of Triangle Acres Family Campground.

He enjoyed camping, square dancing, playing cards, traveling, singing, reading and gardening.

He was predeceased by his wife, Marie (Turner), son, Jon Everett Birckhead, 4 brothers, Everett, Stanley, Tom and Gilbert, 3 sisters, Dorothy, Ruby, and Sarah.

He is survived by, 3 sons, Michael (Betty), Gregory (Michiko), David, and 2 daughters, Cindy (Rick) Jacobs, and Rachel (Joe) Kontgias, his sisters, Ella and Doris, 9 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild and many nieces and nephews.
